Chickpeas

Description

Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum) are annual plants in the pea family (Fabaceae) that are known for their edible seeds. The seeds are also known as garbanzo beans, ceci beans, or Indian peas. They are a staple in Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Indian cuisines and are high in protein, fiber, iron, phosphorus, and folic acid. Chickpeas also have a low glycemic index (GI), which means they can help regulate blood sugar levels.
